EMBOSS: Project Meeting (Aug 2nd 1999)

Attendees

Sanger Centre: Peter Rice, Ian Longden
HGMP: Alan Bleasby, Gary Williams, Jon Ison, Sinead O'Leary
EBI:
eBioinformatics: Peter Maxwell

1. Matters Arising

None.

2. General progress on release 0.0.4

Alan is continuing to implement Z-scores for searches.

Alan has successfully built EMBOSS under AIX.

The extra translation tables have been removed.

Peter has implemented draft documentation for "antigenic" and "pepnet". Alternative documentation styles were discussed, and a "man page" style was suggested. Peter will investigate.

Peter has modified the line wrapping for "-help" so that long words (for example URLs) are not wrapped even if they reach the right margin.

3. Preparation for Beta Release

The main needs are for documentation, ACD file updates and extensive testing.

Validation programs will also be needed for testing the nightly builds. For example, a simple application to test plplot and return an error on failure.

Other tasks include an EMBOSS brochure and EMBOSS Quick Guide.

Alan has added EMBOSS to the NCBI FTP server. EBI should add it too.

Peter will write an embnet.news article.

Next deadline for the CCP11 newsletter (TBR) is in 10 weeks.

Peter will add a "What's New" section to the Web pages to track changes to the Beta release.

4. eBioinformatics

eBioinformatics have launched their BioNavigator web services, which includes wrappers for GCG, ClustalW, Phylip, etc. They want to add EMBOSS. Peter will work with them to use ACD conversion to automate this.

5. Any Other Business

Peter has written an article for the "Cyberbiochemist" feature in The Biochemical Society journal "The Biochemist". Alan will review it before submission.

6. Next meeting

Peter will be away (at ISMB) next week.

Next meeting Monday 16th August, 11:00am, usual place.
