EMBOSS: Project Meeting (Fri 13th May 2005)

2. Software Development
2.1 Database Indexing
Alan will include the full set of indexing programs in 3.0.0 as
an alpha release. dbxflat is passing QA tests cloned from those for
Peter has been trying to decode the current formatdb output
from the NCBI blast package. So far only part can be read. NCBI have
been asked for documentation.
Henrikki Almusa has submitted code for lists of patterns. Peter and
Alan will review and reply.
Jon has split domainatrix into 5 EMBASSY packages. Peter will
generate documentation for the new locations.
3.1 Email lists and FTP server
Alan reported possibilities for relocating the email lists and
the FTP server, currently hosted at RFCGR/HGMP.
The mailing lists are routed through "embnet.org" which i ssent via
RFCGR/HGMP. Alan will remind EMBnet (Martin Grabner) about the
need to reroute embnet.org mail to another site before the end of
Sourceforge is a possible host site for the mailing lists. Peter
will review the current sourceforge mailing list capabilities.
4. Documentation & Training
4.1 Asian Conferences
Peter presented EMBOSS and other EBI projects at the ISGC grid
meeting in Taiwan, and the LSGRID conference in Singapore.
4.2 Purdue course
Peter and Lisa will be in Purdue for their 1 week course next
week. The Purdue facilities are run by Rick Westerman, author of the
EGCG "prettybox" program.
Alan noted the myemboss package will need some minor changes to
work with a pre-installed EMBOSS.
4.3 Sanger talk
Gary gave a 10 minute talk on EMBOSS to the Sanger IT group.
5. User queries and answers
Gary's current list reviewed. Most new issues were already answered.
